Violence in the Workplace
The recent tragedy at Albertson's in Irvine was yet another reminder
of the growing concern of violence in the workplace. Most people
think of violence as a physical assault, often ending tragically.
However, workplace violence is a much broader problem. It is any
act in which a person is abused, threatened, intimidated or assaulted
in his or her employment.
Confronting workplace violence is a serious task. In addition
to the basic moral and human desire to keep workers safe from
harm, increasing legal responsibilities make preventing workplace
violence a top priority. California requires businesses to have
a workplace injury prevention plan. Yet doing so fairly, legally,
and comprehensively is not easy. |
